Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 : specification, Price and review And Compare With Micromax A116

The Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082 is Samsung’s attempt to woo those who can’t afford a top-end device like the Galaxy Note II. It costs Rs 21,500, which is almost twice as expensive as its low-cost rivals, but it’s the most-affordable option if you’re looking for a device from a tier 1 brand. Currently, the Galaxy Grand doesn’t face any competition from other tier 1 brands, but you may want to know how much better it is than the low-cost devices that offer similar specifications. Here’s a breakdown of the specifications to give you an idea how it compares with the closest competition.

OS – Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

Very few current-generation low-cost Android phablets come preloaded with Android Jelly Bean; most of them come with Android ICS—however, you get the OS in the stock form. The Galaxy Grand runs Jelly Bean out of the box and not to mention, it boasts features found in the higher-end Galaxy handsets, such as Smart Stay, Pop up Play and Direct Call.

Cellular network – Dual SIM GSM and 3G 

The Galaxy Grand is the first phablet from a tier 1 brand to offer dual-SIM capability in the sub-Rs 20,000 price band. Quad-band 2G is supported by both the SIM card slots, whereas 3G connectivity is supported only in the SIM1 slot.

Display – 5-inch WVGA

An HD display would have made the Galaxy Grand a killer deal, but unfortunately, it sports a 5-inch WVGA display that has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. On the other hand, you have the Micromax Canvas HD with a 720p IPS LCD. The pixel density of Galaxy Grand’s display is 187 ppi as against 294 ppi in the Canvas HD—that’s a difference of a good 107 ppi or 57 percent in density! That doesn’t mean it’s bad; there’s ample real estate for viewing web pages and documents comfortably and videos are enjoyable on the large 5-inch display.

Form factor and weight – a tad lighter than the Note II

Weighing in at 162 grams, Galaxy Grand is 20 grams lighter than Note II. It’s also a few millimetres less in height and width, but the Note II is slimmer than the Grand by a fraction of a millimetre.

Wi-Fi – Dual-band, 802.11 ‘n’

Like the Nokia Lumia 620, the Galaxy Grand is one of the few handsets in its segment to feature dual-band Wi-Fi ‘n’. So, if your router supports 5GHz wireless band, you can harness much faster connectivity.

SoC

This is grey area and we shall be able to give a clear picture only when we get our hands on the device. We got in touch with Samsung for exact details of the SoC this device uses, but we didn’t get any answer. For now, we can only say it’s powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. According to one source who captured a glimpse of the Galaxy Grand at the Broadcom booth at the CES 2013, it’s quite evident that it’s powered by the Broadcom BCM28155 SoC. It comprises a pair of ARM Cortex-A9 cores and Broadcom’s own VideoCore-IV graphics engine for 2D and 3D acceleration.

Storage – 8GB with the option to expand by up to 64GB

Here, Galaxy Grand has an upper hand over Micromax Canvas HD. Firstly, Galaxy Grand packs 8GB of built-in storage, which is twice as much as in Canvas HD. And secondly, in contrast to microSD expansion of up to 32GB in Canvas HD, Galaxy Grand can take up to a 64GB microSD card.

Primary camera – 8MP with LED flash

The 8MP primary camera featured in the Galaxy Grand has the same resolution as the one featured in Note II. There’s LED flash and digital image stabilisation to help you take clear shots in low light. Videos can be recorded at 1080p at 30fps. The Canvas HD too features an 8MP camera with LED flash, but only our hands-on tests will reveal which of the two takes better photos. Also, the secondary front camera in the Galaxy Grand is a 2MP one as against the VGA camera in the Canvas HD.

Sensors – Gyro, compass and more

The Galaxy Grand comes armed with sensors that will be of most use to the end user—accelerometer, gyro, proximity and compass. The list excludes barometer, but it’s fair for an entry-level phablet.

Battery – Li-ion 2100mAh

Both, the Galaxy Grand and Canvas HD feature a hefty 2100 Li-ion mAh battery to provide decent amount of talk time in addition to fuelling other tasks such as media playback, web browsing, gaming and so on. The Note II packs a 3100 mAh battery and it lasted for over two days without the need for a charge. Our test revealed it played a 720p video in loop for over 12 hours without any hiccup.

The bottom line

Off late, we’ve seen many low-cost Android phablets (such as Micromax Canvas 2 and Lava Iris 501) featuring a dual-core processor, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage and at least a 5 megapixel camera—you can buy one for around Rs 11,000. Cough up another few thousand rupees and you can buy a more feature rich device like the Canvas HD. However, if you’re reluctant to consider a lower-tier brand and don’t want to look beyond top-tier brands, the Galaxy Grand is for you. The specifications look good on paper, and the price point is sweet!

A Latest Micromax A116 Canvas 3 HD: A Specifications,Review And Video Review

Micromax is showing no sign of slowing down when it comes to the phablet onslaught, brought about by the Canvas 2 A110. The company has launched a high-end version dubbed the A116 Canvas HD, which raises the bar once again for mid-range Android, or simply smartphones in general. The A116 boasts of a higher definition screen and a more powerful quad-core CPU, something we’ve not seen in this price range till now. Its primary competition when it launches in the first week of February will be the WickedLeak Wammy Sensation around the same price point and the just launched Samsung Galaxy Grand. Let’s breakdown the specification of the Canvas HD A116 and see how it stacks up against the competition. 

OS – Android 4.1 Jelly Bean The A116 will launch with 4.1 Jelly Bean right out of the box. This puts it ahead of the curb compared to other phones in this price range as well as well as some higher-end handsets. Jelly Bean brings with it Project Butter, which helps deliver a smooth UI experience as well as other enhancements like Google Now, a better camera interface etc.

Cellular network – Dual SIM GSM and 3G  The Canvas HD A116 will retain the dual SIM functionality and will support GSM and 3G networks. You should be able to use both SIMs simultaneously as well, although what’s not very clear at this point is whether or not it will support quad-band or even dual-band 3G. 

Display – 5-inch HD IPS Our major gripe with the Canvas 2 A110 has been addressed with the A116. Micromax has fitted the Canvas HD with a 720p IPS display, which brings the pixel count all the way up to 294ppi. This is the same pixel count as the first Galaxy Note. The Wammy Sensation has a slight edge over the A116 as it packs in the same resolution but on a smaller 4.7-inch display. The Galaxy Grand won’t be a very pretty sight since it only has a WVGA resolution at the same screen size. We’re not sure yet if the Canvas HD will have any scratch resistant glass fitted to it. 

Form factor and weight – Will be a handful With nothing but a picture to go, we don’t have the official dimensions and weight of the A116, but we can safely assume it won’t be too far off from the dimensions of the A110. It does appear to be slightly thicker than the A110, but it’s quite hard to tell based on one picture alone.

Wi-Fi – 802.11 ‘n’ It’s business as usual over here. We have Wi-Fi 802.11 ‘n’ for connectivity. It’s not dual-band, but still good enough for everyday use. 

SoC– MediaTek MT6589 (quad-core)  This is one area where Micromax has completely blown away the competition. The A116 features MediaTek’s MT6589 SoC, which contains a quadc-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU and PowerVR Series5XT GPU. While the CPU uses the slightly older architecture from ARM, the SoC is built using the newer 28nm fabrication process, so it should do well in terms of power efficiency. Micromax hasn’t detailed all the multimedia capabilities of the A116, but digging a little deeper in to the chipsets capabilities, we find support for 1080p video recording. Whether or not Micromax chooses to use this is yet to be seen. Nevertheless, the four cores should easily help in gaming and even the general responsiveness of the UI. Another noteworthy feature is the inclusion of 1GB of RAM, which is on par with the Wammy Sensation and the Galaxy Grand. 

Storage – 4GB onboard with room for expansion  Onboard storage is not much; thankfully, you have the option to expand it via a microSD card slot.

Primary Camera – 8MP sensor with LED flash The primary camera is an 8MP similar to the one used on the A110. Sadly, it’s not a BSI sensor like the one on the XOLO A800. We feel Micromax could have done a little better in this area. Still, we’ll have to wait and see how much of an improvement the camera on the A116 really is. 

Front camera – VGA resolution The front facing camera is only VGA, so don’t expect a whole lot for video calls or even self-portraits. 

Sensors – Accelerometer, proximityWe don’t have any details on the sensors in the A116, but it’s safe to assume that it will have a accelerometer and a proximity sensor. We hope that the Canvas also features an ambient light sensor and if we’re lucky, a gyro and a compass as well. 

GPS – GLONASS and GPSMicromax has stuck with the good’ol GPS for the A116 as GLONASS is missing from the picture. We guess including that piece of hardware would have driven the cost up. 

Battery – Li-Ion 2100mAh The battery size is the same as the one on the Galaxy Grand, however, the quad-core CPU in the A116 might take a toll at the end of the day. A larger battery would have been nice, but we’re guessing that would have automatically increased the weight or the dimensions of the phone. 

The bottom lineNo matter how much we try and nit-pick, there’s no denying the fact that the Canvas HD is currently the best Android smartphone, at least on paper. We don’t know if there will be any competition to the A116 by the time it actually hits retail, but it’s safe to assume that it’s going to be really tough to beat. Some of the strong points that work in its favour include an HD IPS display, quad-core CPU and Jelly Bean support. The only real area of concern right now is the battery life.

While it’s great to see such a powerful handset at a reasonable price, the real question is, will people be ready to shell out more than Rs.10,000 for a Micromax? The company has undoubtedly produced some very good handsets in the past few months, but they’ve all been around the Rs.10,000. When you come to the 15K to 20K price range, things like aesthetics, quality of materials used, updates etc. tend to matter. Samsung has just launched the Galaxy Grand for an MRP of 21,500, so assuming the street price is around Rs.18,000, unless you’re on a very tight budget, a typical user would cough up the extra dough for a product from a more established company. If you had to pick between the A116 and the Galaxy Grand, which one would you go for?

Samsung Galaxy S4 reportedly set to launch in April

The Galaxy S franchise has emerged as a true competitor to 

the iPhone, and garners as much hype and anticipation as 

Apple's marquee smartphone. While early iterations of the 

Galaxy S phone faced a slow start, the Galaxy S3 catapulted 

out of the gate as a smash hit, and has held up remarkably 

well even as other competitive phones have faded. The 

phone has helped propel Samsung into the top spot among 

handset vendors.


The Galaxy S4 -- which ultimately might be branded Galaxy 

S IV -- will feature wireless charging as a key feature. But 

unlike other smartphones such as the Nokia Lumia 920 or 

Droid DNA, the service won't be built-in. Users will have to 

buy a kit with a wireless charging station and replacement 

cover, according to the report.

The next Galaxy S phone will also reportedly feature a larger 

2,600 mAh battery, compared with the Galaxy S3's 2,100 

mAh battery.

With a launch date in April, SamMobile said Samsung could 

hold its own event in March, or possibly unveil the 

smartphone at Mobile World Congress, which begins in late 

February. The Galaxy S3 was unveiled at a Samsung event 

in May last year.

Even if the April 15 launch date holds true, that doesn't 

necessarily mean the Galaxy S4 will make its way to the U.S. 

at that time. As with the Galaxy S III, the phone may launch 

at different times depending on when the U.S. carriers want 

to release the phone, which could vary from days to weeks.

How to implement Sub Menu in Android Apps

The project describes about how to implement Sub menu into your application. A submenu is a menu that the user can open by selecting an item in another menu. You can add a submenu to any menu (except a submenu). Submenus are useful when your application has a lot of functions that can be organized into topics, like items in a PC application’s menu bar (File, Edit, View, etc.).

Underlying Algorithm:

Basic description of algorithm in step by step form:

1.) Create a Project MySubMenu

2.) Create and open the res/menu/menu.xml file and insert the following:

        android:title="Add" />

    <item android:id="@+id/submenu" android:title="Send"

            <item android:id="@+id/submenu2" android:title="Via SMS" />

        </menu>

    </item>

    <item android:id="@+id/Menu3" android:orderInCategory="3"

        android:title="Copy" />

    <item android:id="@+id/Menu4" android:title="Delete"

        android:orderInCategory="4" />

</menu>

3.) Make sure you write following method in MySubMenu class

public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu)

    new MenuInflater(getApplication()).inflate(R.menu.menu, menu);

return(super.onPrepareOptionsMenu(menu));

}

4.) Run the application.

Steps to Create:

1.) Open Eclipse. Use the New Project Wizard and select Android Project Give the respective project name i.e. MySubMenu Enter following information:

Project name: MySubMenu

Build Target: Android 1.6

Application name: MySubMenu

Package name: org.example.MySubMenu

Create Activity: MySubMenu

On Clicking Finish MySubMenu code structure is generated with the necessary Android Packages being imported along with MySubMenu.java. Following code must be added in MySubMenu class to get the menu to work.
